Obama’s New Stance On Marriage

9 05 2012

President Obama just revealed in an interview that he supports same-sex marriage. This makes him the first sitting president to formally support this issue.

This announcement left many people believing that it was just a political stunt made in order to try and get votes. The announcement came the day after North Carolina voted  to approve a ban on gay marriage in the state, and after a week of Obama taking a lot of heat for not really picking a side on the issue.

After Obama’s big announcement, many celebrities took to Twitter to voice their opinions about the issues.

Danny Zuker tweeted, “BREAKING: Obama I voted for finally takes office. #BetterLateThanNever.” Really, Mr.  Zuker? I guess he did not really pay attention to the issues when he went to the polls in 2008.

This is a major move from the Obama campaign that could back fire on him. During his 2008 campaign, Obama said that he was against same-sex marraige. “I’d hesitated on gay marriage in part because I thought civil unions would be sufficient,” he said.

Democrats and Republicans alike have slammed Romney for changing his mind on issues from when he was governor, but now Democrats cannot use this effectively as a campaign strategy. This might just play into the hands of Republicans because many people see that it is just a campaign ploy that is being used to target key people in order to get votes.
